Named for John LoganJohn Logan was a pioneer physician who emigrated to the USA from Ireland. He was an Illinois State Representative during the the 1830s and 1840s. His son, John Alexander Logan, was a General during the Civil War. Established in 1839Prior to being organized as a county, the area was part of Sangamon, Tazewell, McLean and DeWitt Counties. Part of Eighth Judicial CircuitThe Eighth Judicial Circuit was home territory to Abraham Lincoln, the lawyer. He was a frequent visitor in Logan County. The county seat of Logan County, Lincoln, was the first city to be named for A. Lincoln. This occured in 1853, before Lincoln became a well-known figure.
