Several units of Illinois men were recruited and assigned to other states. Some were officially transferred to Illinois and re-named as Illinois Regiments.

Missouri - USA

  Companies were Illinois residents
• 10th Missouri Infantry, Companies A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H
  As a professional courtesy, the Missouri State Archives transferred Civil War records to the Illinois State Archives. These records include muster rolls and payrolls for dozens of Illinois companies who served in Missouri and Arkansas during the Civil War [1862-65]. These were filed in Record Series 301.18, "Admin. files on Civil War Companies and Regiments 1861-1903. 116 cu.ft." under the Office of the Illinois Adjutant General.

  Became 66th Illinois Infantry: Nov 1862
  Companies A,B from out of state
  Company D from state of Michigan [Michigan Sharpshooters]

Tennessee - CSA

• 15th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry - Company G, CSA
  a Confederate unit with many members from Southern Illinois
